What you DON'T Know!
There are many, many things we all learn the hard way - thru our own misfortune.  Fortunately, we can share and relate to those we come in contact with so they won't have to suffer the same fate as we did.

I encourage you to email me a brief descripton of what you've learned in 2009 so I can post it here (anonomysously, of course, unless you wish me to list your name).

Here's a few of mine:
Asking forgiveness
NEVER pay a penalty or fee of any kind without ASKING for forgiveness.  Whether it's the IRS, the returned-check fee from the bank, the late-payment or over-limit fee from the credit card company - ASK them to forgive your error.  MOST will reverse the charge or forgive the penalty.  But, they won't UNLESS you ASK!  What have you got to lose except a few minutes, pushing a few buttons and/or a possible confrontation with someone you'll never see on the street again!  If the front line person answering the phone isn't generous, ask to speak to their supervisor.  If they tell you they'll have to call you back, be sure to ask their name, where they are located and have the person you are speaking to spell their name.  This way, they KNOW YOU have their name and location and can report their behavior or lack of compliance with your request to their supervisor.  Be sure to follow up the next day with another phone call if you don't hear back from the supervisor!
